Manchester United are reportedly eyeing Luton Town midfielder Ross Barkley as a potential replacement for former Real Madrid star Casemiro in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Following a lackluster season that saw Manchester United slump to a 2-1 home league loss to Fulham, the club is seeking reinforcements. With some of their summer signings failing to make an impact and experienced players like Casemiro experiencing a decline in form, the Red Devils are exploring options to bolster their midfield.
According to The Sun, Manchester United view Barkley as an ideal successor to the aging Brazilian. Jim Ratcliffe, the new co-owner of the Red Devils and chief of INEOS, is reportedly a fan of the 30-year-old midfielder, having signed him for Nice last year.
Barkley, who arrived at Luton on a free transfer last summer, has proven to be a valuable asset for Rob Edwards’ side this season. With three goals and three assists in 24 appearances across all competitions, including 20 league outings, Barkley has showcased his capabilities.
A move to Manchester United could see Barkley bring his versatility and experience to Old Trafford. With weekly wages significantly lower than Casemiro’s reported £350,000, Barkley’s £30,000-a-week salary offers a more cost-effective option for the club.
Having represented England 33 times, Barkley is adept at playing in various midfield roles, making him a versatile addition to any squad. With 252 Premier League appearances, along with 32 goals and 34 assists, Barkley brings a wealth of experience and skill to the table.
