Martina Navratilova recently criticized the use of domperidone by transgender women to aid lactation, citing concerns about potential harm to newborns.
Originally developed as a gastrointestinal medication, domperidone has also been found to increase milk supply, making it valuable for breastfeeding mothers and those seeking to induce lactation.
However, its antipsychotic properties led to its ban in the USA, raising concerns about withdrawal symptoms in breastfeeding mothers.
Navratilova shared a post expressing alarm over the alleged use of domperidone by transgender women to stimulate lactation, labeling it as ‘poison’ and ‘abuse’ towards newborns.
She emphasized the responsibility of parents to prioritize child safety and criticized the practice as irresponsible.
“This is so irresponsible. Most mothers don’t even take aspirin to protect the milk and their babies. Shame on anyone even trying this!” Navratilova stated on X (formerly Twitter), echoing the concerns raised in the post.
