Matthew Stafford finished his first day of training camp with the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday by throwing a touchdown pass during a red-zone drill.
When asked if the throw was influenced by his recent contract adjustment with the team, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback didn’t entertain speculation.
“I don’t dwell on those things,” Stafford said. “In this business, I take it play by play, day by day, moment by moment. I’m just happy to be here and today was a great start for our team.”
Stafford, entering his 16th NFL season and fourth with the Rams, kicked off preparations at Loyola Marymount University. He aims to build on a strong previous season and put any contract concerns behind him.
During the offseason, the 36-year-old sought modifications to his four-year, $160 million contract to secure more guaranteed money for the final two years after the upcoming season.
While specific details of the agreement remain undisclosed, Stafford expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
“We reached a good agreement,” Stafford said. “I’m content with where I am. I’m excited to be here, and excited to play football this year. That’s what matters most to me, honestly.”
With the contract settled, Stafford can now focus on football. The Rams showcased their offensive depth during practice, with Stafford connecting passes to star receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, and handing off to running backs Kyren Williams and rookie Blake Corum.
