If Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had the choice for this Saturday’s home preseason game against the Commanders, he would definitely include himself in the lineup.
Tagovailoa mentioned at a press conference on Tuesday that he wants to play after missing the team’s first game of the preseason. He said it would be good to get some practice, get back into the pregame routine, and feel what it’s like to get ready for a game.
Head coach Mike McDaniel will make the final decision about who plays this week, and Tagovailoa explained how that decision is made.
“I think it’s sort of like a mutual thing,” Tagovailoa said, according to a team transcript.
“He talks with the team leaders, those who have established themselves and earned respect in the locker room.
They discuss and decide whether everyone will play, maybe not this time, or see how it goes. Hopefully, we get that chance because it’s our last home game before we go to Tampa and start the season.”
If the Dolphins decide not to play Tagovailoa, Mike White and Skyler Thompson will handle the quarterback duties as they did in the first preseason game.
