Mike Tyson’s upcoming boxing match with Jake Paul in July marks a significant return to professional boxing for the former heavyweight champion after nearly two decades. The bout, scheduled for July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, has received formal sanctioning from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, officially adding to Tyson’s professional record at the age of 58.
Jake Paul, aged 27, enters the ring with a 9-1 professional record, boasting two consecutive first-round finishes in his recent fights against boxing journeyman opponents. Paul has expressed his seriousness about the match on social media, indicating that he’s prepared for a genuine contest against Tyson.
The fight is set to unfold over eight two-minute rounds, with both Tyson and Paul wearing 14oz gloves. Notably, the event will be streamed live on the Netflix platform, adding to the anticipation surrounding the matchup and ensuring widespread viewership.
Tyson’s last professional bout was in June 2005, where he retired during the sixth round against Kevin McBride. However, he returned to the ring in late 2020 for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr., which resulted in a draw.
Alongside Tyson and Paul’s clash, the event features Katie Taylor defending her undisputed super lightweight title in a highly anticipated rematch against Amanda Serrano, following their previous split decision encounter hailed as one of women’s boxing’s most significant matches.
