Indiana coach Mike Woodson will remain at the helm for the next season despite a lackluster performance during the 2023-24 campaign, as reported by Zach Osterman of the Indianapolis Star on Wednesday.
Woodson’s contract was renegotiated before this season, providing him with buyout protections in case Indiana decided to make a change, according to Osterman.
Currently, in his third year with Indiana, Woodson guided the Hoosiers to the NCAA tournament in each of his first two seasons. Since taking over in 2021, Indiana holds a record of 60–39 under Woodson, including a 2–2 record in the NCAA tournament and a 3–2 record in the Big Ten tournament.
Despite achieving back-to-back 20-win seasons previously, Indiana has struggled this season, with a disappointing 16–13 record and two games remaining on the schedule.
While there were uncertainties regarding Indiana’s decision to retain Woodson, the Hoosiers have opted to keep him for at least another season.
Before his tenure at Indiana, Woodson had a successful coaching career in the NBA, leading the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks in two separate stints as head coach. Woodson has strong ties to Indiana, having played 104 games for the Hoosiers as a player between 1976 and 1980.
