Minnesota’s senior vice president and general manager Thad Levine is leaving the Twins after eight seasons, the team announced on Friday.

The Twins’ statement mentioned that he is leaving to “pursue new challenges and opportunities.”

During Levine’s time with the team, the Twins reached the playoffs four times and were the defending American League Central champions.

This year, they were in a good position for the postseason for most of the season but struggled at the end, going 6-18, which caused them to drop out of contention.

Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey noted that Levine built a strong team culture focused on excellence and teamwork, which will continue.

“While we will miss his leadership, we are equally excited to see the next chapter of the journey unfold,” Falvey said in a statement. “We wish him nothing but success.”

Levine thanked Twins’ management in a statement for his time with the team and said it felt like the right moment for him to take on a new challenge.
