The Minnesota Vikings traded Andrew Booth Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys for Nahshon Wright on Friday in a minor cornerback swap. Both players might be at risk of being cut by the end of training camp.
Booth was drafted in the second round by the Vikings from Clemson in 2022 but had a limited impact over two seasons. He missed six games as a rookie due to injuries but played all 17 games last season, with time on both defense and special teams. Booth did not record an interception for Minnesota.
Wright is the fifth defensive back the Vikings have added since training camp began as they work to fill gaps in depth and experience. Eight-year veteran Fabian Moreau joined the Vikings last week.
The Vikings also suffered the loss of rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson in a car crash last month.
Since training camp started, the Vikings have also signed safety Bobby McCain and cornerbacks Jacobi Francis and Duke Shelley.
Wright was a third-round pick by Dallas from Oregon State in 2021 and had one interception and five pass breakups in 32 games over three seasons. He didn’t secure a steady spot in the defensive rotation and was passed on the depth chart by DaRon Bland.
Bland, drafted in the fifth round a year after Wright, has 14 interceptions in 34 career games and set an NFL single-season record in 2023 with five interception returns for touchdowns.
