Brett Wisely hit a two-run home run early in the ninth inning, right after Jason Heyward’s sacrifice fly had tied the game for the San Francisco Giants against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants won 5-3 on Friday night.
Camilo Doval (3-1) got the win, though he missed only his third save chance all season.
Wisely came through in front of a full crowd on fireworks night against the powerful Dodgers.
“He’s been playing shortstop really well, and he’s been delivering big hits for us,” said manager Bob Melvin. “He’s batted leadoff and lower in the lineup. This homer is one he’ll always remember in his career, especially against this team.”
Blake Treinen (2-2) pitched the ninth inning, starting by walking Luis Matos, who was substituted with pinch-runner Tyler Fitzgerald.
Matt Chapman had given the Giants the lead with a two-run homer in the sixth inning, right after the team announced the passing of Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda and held a moment of silence.
Logan Webb struck out six batters in seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Tyler Rogers pitched the eighth inning before Doval came in and gave up a leadoff triple to Andy Pages, followed by Heyward’s sacrifice fly.
Gavin Lux broke a scoreless tie with an RBI double in the fifth inning against Webb, and Will Smith later singled in another run, but the Dodgers’ four-game winning streak ended.
Matos hit a home run for the Giants in the bottom of the fifth inning, just after the team took three out of four games from the Cubs.
