The Cardinals recently acquired quarterback Desmond Ridder to serve as backup behind Kyler Murray.
In a press conference on Wednesday, General Manager Monti Ossenfort highlighted Ridder’s extensive playing experience over the past two seasons, where he made 17 starts for the Falcons.
Ossenfort stressed the importance of quarterback experience, stating, “There is no substitute for experience, especially at the quarterback position.” He mentioned the team’s aim to enhance competition on the roster and expressed confidence in the trio of quarterbacks, including Ridder, Kyler, and Clayton Tune, noting their diverse skill sets.
Tune, a fifth-round draft pick in 2023, appeared in seven games during his rookie season but struggled in his start against the Browns. Meanwhile, Ridder, drafted in the third round in 2022, amassed an 8-9 record as a starter over the last two seasons, completing 64 percent of his passes for 3,544 yards, with 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 19 total appearances.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon praised Ridder’s attributes, citing his size, arm talent, mobility, and intelligence, describing him as a valuable addition to the team.
