Mookie Betts hit his fifth home run of the season, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night. Betts’ homer came in the third inning off Giants pitcher Logan Webb, marking his 1,500th career hit.
Betts, unaware of the milestone until it was mentioned during the game, finished the night with two hits, two runs scored, and a stolen base. He’s been impressive at the plate this season, boasting a .500 batting average and reaching base in 23 of his 38 plate appearances so far.
Webb struggled on the mound, giving up seven hits and five runs in just 3 2/3 innings. Despite some solid pitches, he fell behind in counts and faced challenges, allowing the Dodgers to capitalize, particularly with two-strike hits.
The Dodgers’ bullpen played a crucial role in securing the win, with Ryan Yarbrough pitching 4 1/3 innings of relief to earn the victory. Gavin Lux’s RBI double and Kikè Hernandez’s two-run single were pivotal moments that helped the Dodgers take a 5-2 lead.
The Giants fought back, with Jorge Soler hitting his first home run for the team and Michael Conforto scoring on a fielder’s choice, narrowing the gap to just one run. However, the Dodgers’ bullpen held firm, with Evan Phillips recording a four-out save to seal the victory.
Despite solid performances from Soler, Conforto, and Wilmer Flores, who each had two hits, the Giants couldn’t overcome the Dodgers’ bullpen strength, extending their recent struggles against their division rivals.
