Max Muncy hit three home runs for the first time in his career and brought in four runs. Shohei Ohtani had three hits, setting a new record for the most home runs by a Japanese-born player in Dodgers’ history. The Dodgers won convincingly, beating the Atlanta Braves 11-2 on Saturday night.
Muncy, who also had four hits in the game, expressed his satisfaction, emphasizing the team’s series win and praising Tyler Glasnow’s performance on the mound. Freddie Freeman contributed with three hits and rookie Andy Pages added another home run to the Dodgers’ tally, making it five in total for the game.
Glasnow, with his 6th win of the season, struck out 10 batters and delivered another strong pitching performance for the Dodgers. Manager Dave Roberts praised Glasnow’s consistency and efficiency throughout the game, highlighting his pivotal role in the team’s success.
Despite Ronald Acuña Jr.’s three hits for Atlanta, the Braves couldn’t muster enough offense. Ozzie Albies saw his 15-game hitting streak come to an end as the Braves suffered their fourth loss in five games. Austin Riley and Orlando Arcia contributed with RBIs for the Braves.
Muncy hit a two-run homer in the second inning after Will Smith walked, breaking his 0-for-9 streak. He then hit solo homers in the seventh and eighth innings, becoming the first Dodgers player since Trayce Thompson on April 1, 2023, to hit three home runs in a game.
“I’ve hit two plenty of times, but when you’re up there for the last at-bat, the third one is always in your head,” Muncy said.
Ohtani, who ranks sixth in the majors with a .345 batting average, started the third inning with a home run to right-center, making the score 3-0. This was Ohtani’s eighth home run of the season, surpassing his manager for the most homers by a Japanese-born player.
“Relieved,” Ohtani said with a smile, talking about surpassing the record. Ohtani also had an RBI single as part of a four-run fourth inning, which led to Elder being replaced. Elder allowed seven runs on seven hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
