Former Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins experienced an unexpected setback at the NFL Scouting Combine held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Following an impressive display with a lightning-fast 4.28-second 40-yard dash, Wiggins was forced to exit the field due to a groin injury. Stacey Dales of NFL Network reported that Wiggins would not participate in further drills for the day.
Expressing the intensity of his discomfort, Wiggins informed Dales that his groin injury felt as though it had “popped” and was causing a sensation of intense heat.
Ian Rapoport, also of NFL Network, disclosed that the initial medical evaluation suggested a hip flexor injury for Wiggins. Rapoport added that Wiggins would undergo icing and further evaluation.
Oh my, Nate Wiggins. 4.29u. Wow.

Despite the setback, Wiggins remains a highly anticipated prospect for the upcoming NFL draft, with widespread expectations of being selected in the first round.
Notably, he ranks 50th overall in the Bleacher Report NFL Scouting Department’s big board and holds the 7th position among cornerbacks, trailing behind notable prospects such as Terrion Arnold, Kool-Aid McKinstry, and Khyree Jackson.
Wiggins’ value lies in his versatility within the passing game, a factor that elevates his standing among this year’s cornerback class. With his remarkable length and speed, he presents a formidable presence on the field.
Moreover, there is optimism regarding his potential for further development, particularly in terms of adding weight and enhancing play strength. Despite his injury setback, Wiggins is viewed as having the potential to become an NFL starter, provided he continues to refine his technique early in his professional career.
During his tenure at Clemson, Wiggins showcased his skills across three seasons, contributing significantly in 27 games. His collegiate statistics include three interceptions, 21 passes defended, two forced fumbles, and 60 tackles.
Notably, in the 2023 season, Wiggins delivered a standout performance, amassing two interceptions, two forced fumbles, six passes defended, one sack, and 29 tackles in 10 games.
