Texas pitcher Nathan Eovaldi had a standout game, allowing just one hit in seven innings against the San Diego Padres. Nathaniel Lowe contributed significantly with two two-run homers, helping the Texas Rangers break their 11-game losing streak against the Padres with a convincing 7-0 victory on Tuesday night.
Eovaldi, who struck out six batters, was in top form, throwing 61 of his 92 pitches for strikes. Jonathan Hernández finished off the game by allowing only one hit over the final two innings, securing the Rangers’ eighth shutout of the season.
San Diego, previously on a hot streak with nine wins in their last 11 games, struggled to score and was shut out for the sixth time this season.
Texas ended their longest losing streak against any single opponent in team history, dating back to September 2018. For San Diego, their winning streak against Texas had been the longest ongoing streak in Major League Baseball.
Eovaldi’s only mistake was giving up a single to Bryce Johnson in the third inning. Despite this, Texas displayed strong defensive plays, notably a bare-handed grab by shortstop Josh Smith that prevented further damage.
Lowe’s offensive contributions were crucial for Texas, as he homered in both the first and third innings off Dylan Cease. His homers gave the Rangers an early lead and helped them maintain control throughout the game.
It was a dominant performance by Texas, breaking a challenging losing streak and delivering a shutout victory over a formidable opponent in San Diego.
