The 2024 NBA Cup is in full swing as the league enters the second year of its in-season tournament.
While the NBA Cup courts have a refreshed design this year, the tournament format remains largely the same as in its 2023 debut, though there’s room for improvement in certain areas.
For those who need a refresher, here’s a quick overview of how the tournament operates:
The NBA’s 30 teams are divided into six groups of five: three groups in the Eastern Conference and three in the Western Conference.
Teams compete in a round-robin format, playing against the other four teams in their group.
These games take place on Tuesdays and Fridays between November 12 and December 3.
Eight teams will progress to the knockout stage: the six group winners and one wild-card team from each conference.
Standings are determined based on overall records, with tiebreakers including head-to-head results and point differentials (and additional tiebreakers if necessary).
The knockout stage features a single-elimination bracket, with four teams from the East on one side and four from the West on the other.
The championship game, pitting the East winner against the West winner, is scheduled for December 17 in Las Vegas.
With the tournament underway, we’ll be closely monitoring the standings and the crucial point differentials below.
