There will not be a last-minute contract extension for New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara before the regular season begins.
Kamara left the team’s mandatory minicamp this spring in an effort to get a new deal, but he reported to training camp on time and has been participating in football activities as the season approaches.
Kamara told reporters on Monday that it would have been “cool” if a new deal had been worked out during camp, but it is now “too late for contract talk.”
“I’m kind of at the point where I’m not even talking about it until after the season,” Kamara said.
Kamara still has two years remaining on his current contract, but it lacks guaranteed money and includes a $29 million cap hit for next year.
It seems unlikely he will complete the year under this deal, so Sunday’s game could mark the beginning of his final chapter with the Saints.
