The New Orleans Saints have placed right tackle Ryan Ramczyk on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, which means he will miss at least the first four games of the upcoming regular season.

Ramczyk did not attend Saints’ activities during the offseason as he recovered from a procedure last winter aimed at easing a lingering knee injury that had limited his practice time during game weeks.

During offseason workouts, Saints coach Dennis Allen mentioned uncertainty about Ramczyk’s availability for the start of training camp on July 24 in Irvine, California.

Now, Ramczyk, who has been a starter since his rookie year in 2017 and was an AP All-Pro in 2019, will continue to be absent into the regular season, with no set timeline for his return.

The roster change is part of several moves the Saints made on Thursday, including preparing to start the regular season with new players at both offensive tackle positions and at one guard spot.

Additionally, the Saints placed tight end Juwan Johnson, defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon, linebacker Nephi Sewell, and defensive end Chase Young on the active/physically unable to perform list, with the possibility of them returning during the preseason.

Receiver Chris Olave was placed on the non-football injury list but could also return at any time. Rookie receiver Bub Means was removed from the non-football injury list.

The active roster retains two starters from the Saints’ 2023 offensive line: center Erik McCoy and guard Cesar Ruiz. Rookie Taliese Fuaga, drafted in the first round from Oregon State, has been practicing as the first-string left tackle during offseason sessions.

Trevor Penning, a 2022 first-round draft pick who missed most of his rookie season due to injury and lost his starting left tackle position after five games last season, has been taking first-team snaps at right tackle.
