Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcântara has rejoined first-team training with the club for the first time this season.
The Spanish midfielder sustained a hip injury in April 2023, requiring surgery that kept him sidelined since then. Despite not featuring for the Reds this season, Thiago recently resumed training with the first team.
Ahead of Liverpool’s 4-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea at Anfield on January 31, Klopp spoke about Thiago’s return in a press conference:
“Thiago trained for the first time which was an incredible moment after all the months. He needs time but it was a wonderful sign.”
Liverpool’s upcoming fixture is against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday (February 4). However, according to journalist Daveockop, Thiago will not be available for selection for this match. It is anticipated that the Spaniard will return to the matchday squad for their home clash against Burnley on February 10.
Thiago, who joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich for a reported £20 million in 2020, has made 97 appearances for the club amid recurring injury setbacks, missing approximately 100 games.
With Thiago’s contract with the Reds set to expire in the summer, he is expected to depart as a free agent. Clubs from Saudi Arabia and Flamengo have been linked with a potential move for the talented midfielder.
