Grady Sizemore will remain with the Chicago White Sox as the offensive coordinator under new manager Will Venable.
Sizemore had briefly stepped in as the interim manager after the White Sox fired Pedro Grifol in August. As interim manager, Sizemore led the team to a 13-32 record, while the White Sox finished the season with a 41-121 record, setting a major league record for losses in a season since 1900.
After Venable was hired in October, he expressed his expectation that Sizemore would be part of his coaching staff for his first season with the team.
The White Sox made an announcement on Monday, confirming Sizemore’s return and also naming other members of the 2024 coaching staff. Other coaches staying on include pitching coach Ethan Katz, hitting coach Marcus Thames, assistant pitching coach Matt Wise, first base/outfield coach Jason Bourgeois, third base/infield coach Justin Jirschele, and catching coach Drew Butera.
Walker McKinven was named bench coach. McKinven, 35, worked for the Milwaukee Brewers for the past five seasons, most recently as the run prevention coordinator for the 2023 NL Central champions.
Joel McKeithan was appointed as assistant hitting coach. McKeithan, 33, previously served as the hitting coach for the Cincinnati Reds for the last two years and started with the Reds as assistant hitting coach in 2022.
The White Sox also mentioned that Mike Gellinger and Doug Sisson, who were added to the big league coaching staff in August, will be reassigned within the organization.
