There was no American flag this time for Aaron Rodgers, but the New York Jets quarterback received a loud cheer as he ran onto the field at MetLife Stadium. Rodgers was back at home and ready to play again.
The 40-year-old, a four-time MVP, made his first home start on Thursday night since suffering a torn Achilles tendon just over a year ago. He helped lead New York to a strong 24-3 victory over the New England Patriots.
Rodgers was the last Jets player introduced before the game, and the crowd, many wearing green and white No. 8 jerseys, erupted in excitement. Fireworks lit up the night sky, and LED wristbands given to fans created a glowing sea of green in the stands.
He provided some excitement in the first half, helping the Jets to a 14-3 lead.
Rodgers’ first touchdown at home with the Jets went to his former Green Bay teammate, Allen Lazard, who ran from the end zone to give him the ball and celebrate the moment.
Rodgers completed 27 of 35 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns, and he also kept plays alive with his legs throughout the night.
“This was kind of a first step in playing like I know I’m capable of playing,” he said after the game. “I felt like I was, you know, myself.”
The last time Rodgers entered MetLife Stadium, he carried an American flag on September 11, 2023, marking the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks. The crowd cheered loudly as the flag waved behind him.
