You don’t get a Ferrari and just leave it in the garage on a fall Sunday.
The same goes for the New York Jets in Week 7. They recently traded for All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams and plan to use him against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
Adams missed the last three weeks with a hamstring injury while with the Las Vegas Raiders, but that issue is no longer a problem. Jets’ interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich stated that Adams is set to play for Sunday Night Football.
“I do. We didn’t know what to expect with him coming here. Obviously, he had been listed on the injury report with the hamstring, so we had to make an assessment once he got here,” Ulbrich said on Friday in Florham Park.
“He’s looked fantastic. He’s 31 or 32, whatever his age is, but you would never know. He looks just as explosive and fast. I’m so excited to get him integrated into this offense.”
Adams, who turns 32 on December 24, is eager to reunite with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. They played together for eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
“It’s great, just being back and able to be with my guy,” Adams said on Wednesday. “Having him as my quarterback again, he’s part of why I am who I am.”
Their past connection should help Adams adjust to his new team more quickly than most players.
“It’s not as much of a learning curve that a typical guy would have. For one, he’s experienced. Two, he’s familiar with this offense. Three, his relationship with Aaron is next level. Excited to get him going,” Ulbrich added.
Adams is a three-time All-Pro First Team selection and has six Pro Bowl nods. In his last season (2021) with Rodgers in Green Bay, he set career highs in receptions (123) and receiving yards (1,553).
The Jets (2-4) will face the Steelers (4-2) on October 20 at 8:20 pm ET on NBC.
