New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley will miss the game against the New England Patriots on Thursday night because of a toe injury.
Mosley hurt his right big toe during the first half of the Jets’ win over Tennessee last Sunday and did not return to the game. He did not practice this week and was listed as questionable for Thursday’s match.
Coach Robert Saleh mentioned earlier that if Mosley couldn’t play, Jamien Sherwood would take over as the defensive leader. Sherwood performed well against the Titans when Mosley was out.
The Jets also promoted linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball from the practice squad.
Cornerback D.J. Reed is back in the starting lineup after missing the Tennessee game due to knee soreness.
The Jets placed edge rusher Jermaine Johnson on injured reserve after he tore his right Achilles tendon in the game against Tennessee. Defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes was signed from the practice squad to fill Johnson’s spot on the roster.
Other inactive players for the Jets include running back Israel Abanikanda, offensive tackles Max Mitchell and Carter Warren, defensive end Eric Watts, and cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse.
For the Patriots, starting left tackle Vederian Lowe (knee) and left guard Sidy Sow (ankle) were ruled out on Wednesday.
Center David Andrews (hip) and right tackle Mike Onwenu (wrist) are active despite being listed as questionable.
Linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley is inactive due to a shoulder injury he sustained against Seattle. Also not playing for New England are defensive end Jamree Kromah, cornerback Marco Wilson, and quarterback Joe Milton.
