Newcastle United supporters have issued cautionary messages to Manchester United regarding their reported interest in Dan Ashworth.

Back in December, news broke that British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the head of INEOS, had acquired a 25 percent stake in the iconic Old Trafford club. Ratcliffe’s team is expected to oversee football operations, while the Glazers handle commercial affairs.

Since INEOS’s involvement, they’ve already attracted Omar Berrada, former chief executive officer of Manchester City, to join their ranks. Now, reports indicate that Manchester United are eyeing Dan Ashworth from Newcastle as a potential sporting director.

However, Newcastle fans have taken to social media to share their reservations about Ashworth’s potential move. One fan highlighted a perceived shift in perception, stating, “I swear he wasn’t this hyped when we signed him, now he’s the second coming because he uses MS Excel.”

Another fan chimed in, expressing skepticism about Ashworth’s touted expertise, saying, “Yeah, no other clubs have a ‘football database’… The same guy who signed a €70M player with a gambling issue he had zero clue about.”

A third fan raised concerns about Ashworth’s strategic decisions, noting, “His analytics believed Newcastle could compete in the league and Champions League with Miguel Almiron on the wing.”

Another supporter pointed out perceived shortcomings in Ashworth’s tenure at Newcastle, remarking, “Signed 2 fullbacks not played much, Tonali banned for the season and Barnes missed the season. Never filled positions we were short on last summer, that’s where a DOF earns his badges, Dan didn’t earn any badges last summer.”

A fifth fan found it intriguing that concerns were not voiced when Ashworth initially joined Newcastle.

While Manchester United have faced challenges this season, recent performances suggest a turnaround in form, with four consecutive Premier League victories. Their next test comes against Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
