According to reports from UOL (via Daily Mail), former Barcelona superstar Neymar provided financial assistance to Dani Alves, helping cover his legal expenses with a payment of €150,000.
The iconic right-back, a key figure in Barcelona’s golden era, faced legal troubles after being found guilty of rape in a nightclub in Catalonia. He had been under detention since January 2023.
Although initially facing a 12-year prison sentence requested by the victim’s legal team, Alves was ultimately sentenced to four-and-a-half years.
Neymar Jr reportedly intervened by contributing €150,000 towards Alves’ legal expenses, which played a role in reducing the final sentence.
The court directed these funds to be allocated to the victim as compensation for the harm and injuries caused. In addition to financial aid, Neymar’s family also offered legal support, providing one of their top lawyers, Gustavo Xisto, for Alves’ defense.
Despite the reduction in sentence, Alves maintains his innocence, asserting that the intimate encounter with his female accuser in the nightclub was consensual. His legal team intends to appeal the court’s decision.
