The Dallas Cowboys have made a major financial commitment to their offensive line by signing left guard Tyler Smith to a four-year, $96 million extension. The deal includes $81.2 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid interior offensive lineman in NFL history. This surpasses the contract of Kansas City Chiefs guard Trey Smith, who previously held the record with a four-year, $94 million deal.

Cowboys Secure Tyler Smith Long-Term, Extend Core Players Despite Parsons Trade

Smith had already been under contract through 2026 after the Cowboys exercised his $21.27 million fifth-year option. With the new extension, he is now locked in until 2030, giving Dallas stability at a key position. Despite trading star pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in August, the Cowboys have been proactive in securing other core players with long-term deals.

Smith’s deal is the third significant contract the Cowboys have finalized since training camp began. Tight end Jake Ferguson signed a four-year extension worth up to $52 million, while cornerback DaRon Bland agreed to a four-year, $92 million deal. These moves show Dallas’ focus on retaining young talent even amid difficult roster decisions, such as the Parsons trade.

Tyler Smith’s Versatility, Pro Bowl Success, And Leadership Anchor Cowboys’ Future

Drafted in the first round in 2022, Smith quickly proved his versatility by stepping in at left tackle during his rookie year when veteran Tyron Smith was injured. He later transitioned back to left guard, where he has excelled. A two-time Pro Bowler already, he joins legendary Cowboys linemen Larry Allen, Zack Martin, and Travis Frederick as the only players in team history to earn multiple Pro Bowl selections in their first three seasons.

With Zack Martin’s retirement this offseason, the 24-year-old Smith has assumed the role of leader on a young offensive line. Surrounded by rookies and second-year players, his leadership has been praised by both head coach Brian Schottenheimer and team owner Jerry Jones. Smith’s blend of talent, durability, and leadership is expected to anchor Dallas’ offensive front for years to come.
