Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is preparing for a trip to Cleveland, where he plans to meet with Browns head coach Todd Monken to discuss quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Deion expressed that the conversation is long overdue and believes it should have taken place a year earlier, emphasizing the importance of open communication between coaches when developing young players.

Appearing on The Barbershop with Garrett Bush, Sanders clarified that he will approach the meeting strictly as a coach rather than as Shedeur’s father. He said his goal is to share insights that could help Monken better understand how to maximize his son’s performance and development at the professional level. Having coached Shedeur throughout his high school career and both his collegiate stops at Jackson State and Colorado, Sanders believes he holds valuable, experience-based knowledge that isn’t visible through game film alone.

Sanders Urges Better Communication Between Coaches to Support Player Development and Growth

Sanders also pointed to a broader concern, suggesting that previous coaching staffs missed opportunities to reach out and gather information about key players he has coached, including star two-way player Travis Hunter, who was recently drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He argued that such communication could provide important details about what motivates or hinders a player’s performance.

Shedeur Sanders is currently competing for the starting quarterback role in his second year, battling veteran Deshaun Watson. Monken, who was hired in January after the Browns parted ways with Kevin Stefanski following a 5–12 season, is now tasked with reshaping the team’s direction. Sanders made it clear he is looking forward to the meeting and hopes it will open a more collaborative approach moving forward.
