J.K. Dobbins, recently signed by the Denver Broncos on a one-year deal, expressed enthusiasm about joining a team he believes is ready to contend for a Super Bowl. Speaking after his first minicamp session, Dobbins said the decision to join Denver was a “no-brainer” due to the team’s strong defense, quality offensive line, and quarterback play. He also praised head coach Sean Payton and said he’s confident in the coaching he’ll receive.

Dobbins Motivated by Chargers Exit, Focused on Super Bowl Glory in Denver

Dobbins, who had a career-high 905 rushing yards last season with the Los Angeles Chargers, acknowledged that his departure from the team wasn’t entirely smooth. The Chargers placed a rarely-used unrestricted free agent tender on him, despite already signing Najee Harris and drafting Omarion Hampton. While Dobbins found the situation “weird,” he deferred to his agent to handle the details, ultimately focusing on his fresh start in Denver.

With the Chargers now a division rival, Dobbins admitted he’ll play with a chip on his shoulder. However, he emphasized that his focus is not just on beating his former team but on helping the Broncos win a championship. The 26-year-old is driven by the desire to bring a Super Bowl title to Denver, stating, “That’s my goal.” His deal is worth $2.75 million, with incentives that could bring it over $5 million.

Dobbins Adds Depth, Versatility to Broncos’ Competitive and Evolving Running Back Room

With Javonte Williams now in Dallas, the Broncos are reshaping their backfield. Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph noted that Dobbins had impressed them even as an opponent last season, calling him one of the toughest backs to tackle. Given his skill set and football intelligence, Dobbins is expected to be a key contributor, particularly on third downs, where he can offer both running and pass-protection skills.

Dobbins will compete with returning backs Audric Estime, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Tyler Badie, as well as rookie RJ Harvey, whom the Broncos traded up to draft in the second round. Head coach Sean Payton said no roles are set yet, but praised Dobbins for his consistency and ability to add “spaghetti sauce” — or extra yardage — to plays. Training camp and the preseason will determine how carries are distributed among the crowded but talented running back group.
