Brian Burns

Panthers’ edge rusher Brian Burns’ availability for Sunday’s opener against the Falcons remains uncertain following a series of missed practices amid contract negotiations. However, if he does play, he will be part of the coin toss this weekend.

During his Wednesday press conference, head coach Frank Reich announced that Burns has been designated as one of the team’s captains. Reich did not confirm whether Burns would participate in the team’s practice later in the day and deferred questions about his plans to Burns himself.

Reich also refrained from discussing potential fines for Burns if his hold-in persists.

“To Brian’s credit, he has not made himself a distraction. . . He’s been in the building,” Reich stated, as reported by Joseph Person of TheAthletic.com. “He’s in there lifting weights. He’s been in meetings. He’s missed a couple of practices. He’s been a complete pro.”

Reich mentioned that he has not yet contemplated ruling Burns out for Sunday’s game, but the Panthers would welcome some clarity regarding his availability.
