Devon Toews scored with 37 seconds remaining in overtime, leading the Colorado Avalanche to a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers in Denver on Tuesday night.
Artturi Lehkonen and Parker Kelly also scored for the Avalanche, while Nathan MacKinnon had two assists. Mackenzie Blackwood made 27 saves for Colorado. Trailing 2-1, Blackwood was pulled for an extra skater with 2:14 left. Lehkonen tied the game when he scored off Mikko Rantanen’s rebound at 18:47.
For the Rangers, Sam Carrick had a goal and an assist, Adam Edstrom also scored, and Igor Shesterkin made 23 saves. The Rangers’ two-game winning streak came to an end.
The Rangers dominated the first part of overtime, including several power-play opportunities. But the Avalanche capitalized in the final minute. Logan O’Connor passed to MacKinnon, who sent the puck to Toews in the right circle. Toews beat Shesterkin on the short side to win it for Colorado.
Sharks 6, Red Wings 3
William Eklund and Tyler Toffoli each had a goal and two assists, helping San Jose defeat Detroit and end their seven-game winning streak.
Nico Sturm, Jan Rutta, Mikael Granlund, and Mario Ferraro also scored for the Sharks, who ended a three-game losing streak. The Sharks have won just four of their last 18 games. Alexandar Georgiev made 25 saves.
Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice for Detroit, who also got a goal from Lucas Raymond. Ville Husso made 18 saves in the loss.
Canadiens 5, Utah 3
Kirby Dach scored twice, and Lane Hutson, the rookie points leader, had his first three-assist game to lead Montreal over Utah in Salt Lake City.
Cole Caufield and Mike Matheson each had one goal and one assist for Montreal, while Patrik Laine scored his 400th career point. Sam Montembeault made 22 saves as the Canadiens won their 10th game in their last 13 (10-2-1).
For Utah, Josh Doan, Nick Bjugstad, and Logan Cooley scored. The team has one win in their last five games (1-3-1), continuing a 2-7-2 slump. Karel Vejmelka stopped 21 shots.
Capitals 3, Ducks 0
Logan Thompson made 19 saves to record a shutout as Washington defeated Anaheim at home.
Thompson’s shutout was his first with the Capitals and the fifth of his career. He extended his point streak to eight games (7-0-1) and improved his record this season to 19-2-3. Brandon Duhaime, John Carlson, and Ethen Frank each scored for Washington, who are on an eight-game point streak (5-0-3).
John Gibson made 22 saves for Anaheim, who have lost four of their last five games (1-3-1). This was the Ducks’ second shutout loss in the past three games.
Bruins 6, Lightning 2
David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha each had a goal and two assists, and Jeremy Swayman made 43 saves to help Boston defeat Tampa Bay at home.
Andrew Peeke and Brad Marchand also scored, and Trent Frederic and Parker Wotherspoon (scoring his first NHL goal) added tallies for the Bruins. Boston has rebounded from a 0-5-1 skid with consecutive wins.
Victor Hedman had a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay, who also got a goal from Connor Geekie. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 18 saves for the Lightning.
Predators 5, Golden Knights 3
Steven Stamkos scored twice and added an assist, while Filip Forsberg also had a goal and an assist as Nashville defeated Vegas for a milestone win.
Justin Barron and Ryan O’Reilly also scored for the Predators, who earned their 1,000th win in franchise history. Justus Annunen made 19 saves. Nashville snapped a two-game losing streak.
Pavel Dorofeyev scored a hat trick for Vegas, and Tomas Hertl and Victor Olofsson each had two assists. Ilya Samsonov made 18 saves as Vegas lost for the third time in four games.
Jets 6, Canucks 1
Kyle Connor scored a natural hat trick in the first period and finished with an assist as Winnipeg routed Vancouver.
Neal Pionk, Nino Niederreiter, and Mark Scheifele each had a goal and an assist. Gabriel Vilardi had three assists, and Cole Perfetti had two assists. Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves.
Vancouver’s only goal came from Nils Hoglander. Kevin Lankinen made 27 saves as the Canucks dropped to 1-3-2 in their last six games.
Blue Jackets 3, Flyers 2 (SO)
Kirill Marchenko scored the decisive shootout goal as Columbus defeated Philadelphia at home. The Blue Jackets are 4-0 in shootouts this season and have won five straight games.
Zach Werenski scored both goals for Columbus in regulation. Daniil Tarasov stopped 23 of 25 shots, and the Flyers missed both shootout attempts.
Bobby Brink and Owen Tippett scored for the Flyers, who have earned a point in three straight games (2-0-1).
Panthers 2, Devils 1 (SO)
Anton Lundell scored the shootout winner in the third round, giving Florida a win in Newark, N.J.
Jesper Boqvist scored for the Panthers, while Spencer Knight made 26 saves. Florida snapped a two-game losing streak (0-1-1).
Nico Hischier scored for the Devils, who are 2-0-2 after a four-game losing streak. Jacob Markstrom made 27 saves in the loss.
Stars 4, Maple Leafs 1
Logan Stankoven broke a 25-game scoring drought by scoring twice in Dallas’ road win over Toronto.
Matt Duchene added a goal and two assists for the Stars, who have won eight of their last nine games. Mavrik Bourque also scored, Stankoven had an assist, and Jake Oettinger stopped 27 shots.
Auston Matthews scored for Toronto, and Joseph Woll made 19 saves. The Maple Leafs have lost three straight in regulation for the first time this season.
Kraken 4, Penguins 2
Jamie Oleksiak and Eeli Tolvanen scored 50 seconds apart in the third period to lead Seattle over Pittsburgh.
Chandler Stephenson and Kaapo Kakko also scored for the Kraken, who won for just the second time since the start of the new year (2-4-1). Adam Larsson had two assists, and Joey Daccord made 31 saves.
Philip Tomasino and Bryan Rust scored for the Penguins, who have lost three straight games. Tristan Jarry made 14 saves on 17 shots.
Senators 2, Islanders 0
Leevi Merilainen recorded his second shutout in three starts, stopping 24 shots to lead Ottawa to a win in New York.
The Senators have won three straight games, all started by Merilainen. Adam Gaudette scored in the second period, and Artem Zub added an empty-netter in the third. Ottawa is one point out of the second wild-card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Islanders goalie Marcus Hogberg made 25 saves in the loss, as New York had its three-game winning streak snapped. The Islanders are last in the Metropolitan Division and 15th in the Eastern Conference.
Blues 2, Flames 1
Radek Faksa scored the game-winning goal as St. Louis defeated Calgary 2-1 at home.
Colton Parayko also scored for the Blues, and Jordan Binnington made 26 saves. St. Louis has won two of its last three games.
Kevin Bahl scored for Calgary, and Dan Vladar made 23 saves. The Flames’ three-game winning streak came to an end. Faksa’s deflection with 8:49 left was the game-winner, and the Flames could not tie it with an extra attacker.
