Roope Hintz scored two goals and the Dallas Stars won 3-1 against the Washington Capitals on Monday, ending the Capitals’ 10-game road winning streak, which was a franchise record.
Lian Bichsel also scored for the Stars, who have won three out of their last four games during their six-game homestand, improving to 13-3-0 at home this season. Jason Robertson had two assists, and Jake Oettinger made 25 saves.
Dylan Strome scored for the Capitals, who had won four straight games and earned points in nine consecutive games (8-0-1), the longest point streak in the NHL this season. Charlie Lindgren made 21 saves.
The Capitals missed the chance to tie the NHL record for most consecutive road wins, which is 12, held by the 2005-06 Detroit Red Wings and the 2014-15 Minnesota Wild.
Canucks 3, Avalanche 1
Kiefer Sherwood scored a natural hat trick, and Thatcher Demko made 30 saves in Vancouver’s win over Colorado. This was Sherwood’s first career hat trick in his seven NHL seasons.
Sherwood now has 11 goals in 30 games with Vancouver, already surpassing his previous career best of 10 goals from last season with the Nashville Predators. The Canucks finished their six-game homestand with a 3-2-1 record.
Demko stopped 30 of 31 shots, allowing just one goal by Valeri Nichushkin with 46 seconds left in the third period. Mackenzie Blackwood made 22 saves for the Avalanche, who are 1-2-0 in their past three games.
Panthers 6, Oilers 5
Carter Verhaeghe scored the game-winning goal in the third period and added an assist to help Florida beat Edmonton in a back-and-forth game.
Sam Reinhart and Niko Mikkola each had a goal and an assist for the Panthers, who had been shut out in their last two games. Matthew Tkachuk, Gustav Forsling, and Jesper Boqvist also scored for Florida. Anton Lundell recorded two assists, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves.
Zach Hyman scored twice, and Connor McDavid had three assists for the Oilers, who saw their five-game winning streak end. Leon Draisaitl had a goal and an assist, Kasperi Kapanen and Connor Brown also scored, and Stuart Skinner made 22 saves.
