Taylor Hall scored the go-ahead goal with 13:44 left and also had an assist, helping the Chicago Blackhawks end a five-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers on Monday night.
The Blackhawks had been outscored 21-10 during their losing streak, but the win gave interim coach Anders Sorensen his first victory in two games after he took over for Luke Richardson on Thursday. Chicago also ended a six-game road losing streak (0-5-1) and secured their fourth win in 15 games (4-10-1).
Tyler Bertuzzi also scored for the Blackhawks, who won only their second game this season when scoring two goals or fewer. Chicago goalie Arvid Soderblom made 29 saves in the victory, stepping in after Petr Mrazek went on injured reserve with a groin injury. Soderblom’s key save came on Artemi Panarin during a New York power play in the second period.
Red Wings 6, Sabres 5 (SO)
Lucas Raymond had a goal and an assist and also scored in the shootout as the Detroit Red Wings beat the Buffalo Sabres to snap a five-game losing streak.
Andrew Copp scored twice, and Moritz Seider had a goal and an assist for Detroit. Goalie Sebastian Cossa made his NHL debut and picked up the win in relief, making key saves.
Buffalo’s Jason Zucker scored twice and added an assist. The Sabres have now lost seven straight games (0-4-3).
Canadiens 3, Ducks 2 (SO)
Patrik Laine had a goal and an assist in regulation before the Montreal Canadiens won in a shootout against the Anaheim Ducks.
Kirby Dach also scored, and goalie Sam Montembeault made 27 saves, including four in overtime, for the Canadiens. Montreal improved to 3-1-0 on their five-game homestand.
Troy Terry scored both goals for Anaheim, and goalie Lukas Dostal made 19 saves. The Ducks lost their sixth game in the past eight (2-4-2). In the shootout, Laine and Cole Caufield scored for Montreal, while Terry and Mason McTavish missed for Anaheim.
