Zach Werenski finished off a career-high five-point performance with a goal 1:26 into overtime, helping the Columbus Blue Jackets fight back for a 7-6 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.
Werenski, who scored during the team’s six-goal second period and tallied three assists, sent a wrist shot past Lightning goalie Jonas Johansson (36 saves) to complete the Blue Jackets’ comeback from a 3-0 deficit and earn their third win in four games.
Sean Monahan registered a goal and three assists, while Kent Johnson scored twice in his return after missing 14 games due to a shoulder injury.
For the Lightning, Nikita Kucherov had three assists, while four players—Mitchell Chaffee, Brandon Hagel, Anthony Cirelli, and Conor Geekie—each had a goal and an assist. Tampa Bay struggled defensively after allowing three goals in their previous three games.
Flames 3, Rangers 2
Connor Zary broke a tie in the third period, and the Calgary Flames recovered after giving up a two-goal lead to defeat the New York Rangers.
Matt Coronato and Yegor Sharangovich each had one goal and one assist, helping the Flames extend their winning streak to three games. Dustin Wolf made 27 saves, and MacKenzie Weegar contributed three assists.
Alexis Lafreniere and Will Cuylle scored for the Rangers, who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Igor Shesterkin tied his career-high with 46 saves in an impressive goalie duel.
Bruins 1, Utah 0
Elias Lindholm scored the only goal in the second period, and Joonas Korpisalo made 21 saves to earn a shutout as Boston won in Joe Sacco’s debut as interim head coach, defeating Utah.
Korpisalo made nine saves in the second period and helped Boston weather a late push from Utah. The Bruins went 1-for-7 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Karel Vejmelka stopped 30 shots for Utah, which has lost four of its last five games and was shut out for the fifth time in 19 games.
Devils 4, Hurricanes 2
Jesper Bratt scored twice in a three-point game as the New Jersey Devils beat the Carolina Hurricanes in Newark, N.J.
Stefan Noesen scored on the power play early in the second period, and Dougie Hamilton added the game-winning goal in the third. The Devils have won three of their last four games. Jack Hughes added three assists, and Jacob Markstrom made 20 saves for the victory in his 500th career game.
Jack Roslovic opened the scoring for the Hurricanes, and Andrei Svechnikov tied the game in the third, but the Hurricanes’ three-game winning streak was broken. Spencer Martin made 17 saves.
Golden Knights 3, Senators 2
Ilya Samsonov made 38 saves as visiting Vegas defeated Ottawa, giving Bruce Cassidy his 400th career coaching victory.
Jack Eichel, Brett Howden, and Pavel Dorofeyev scored for the Golden Knights, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Ivan Barbashev had two assists. Vegas improved to 12-1-1 all-time against the Senators. Cassidy, an Ottawa native, became the eighth active NHL coach to reach 400 wins.
Adam Gaudette and Drake Batherson scored for Ottawa, who lost their fourth straight game. Linus Ullmark finished with 29 saves.
Red Wings 2, Islanders 1
Lucas Raymond scored with 51.1 seconds remaining, helping Detroit snap a three-game losing streak with a win over the New York Islanders.
Raymond received a pass from Dylan Larkin and scored from the left circle for his third goal of the season. Jonatan Berggren scored earlier for the Red Wings, while Alex Lyon made 22 saves.
Simon Holmstrom scored for the Islanders, and Ilya Sorokin made 29 saves. The Islanders finished 1-2-2 on their five-game road trip.
Avalanche 2, Capitals 1
Miles Wood scored early in the third period to give Colorado the lead in a win over Washington.
The Capitals also announced before the game that their star captain, Alex Ovechkin, is expected to miss four to six weeks with a fracture in his left fibula. Pierre-Luc Dubois scored for Washington, while Logan Thompson made 25 saves, falling to 8-1-1 in his first season with the Capitals.
Mikko Rantanen scored a power-play goal for Colorado, his 13th of the season and ninth in his last eight games. Alexandar Georgiev made 30 saves in his return from a two-game injury absence.
Blackhawks 3, Panthers 1
Petr Mrazek made 32 saves, and Nick Foligno had a goal and an assist as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Florida Panthers.
Teuvo Teravainen and Craig Smith also scored for the Blackhawks, ending a three-game losing streak with the upset win over the reigning Stanley Cup champions. The Panthers have gone 1-4-0 after a seven-game winning streak. Sam Reinhart scored for Florida, and Spencer Knight made 17 saves.
Blues 3, Sharks 2 (OT)
Jordan Binnington made 22 saves through regulation and overtime, then stopped all three shootout attempts for his 151st career win as St. Louis defeated San Jose.
Binnington tied Mike Luit for the most wins by a Blues goalie. Jordan Kyrou and Nathan Walker scored in regulation for St. Louis, who won just their second game in the last eight (2-5-1). Jake Neighbours scored the only goal in the shootout.
Alexander Wennberg scored twice for San Jose, who has won just one of their last six games (1-2-3). Mikael Granlund and Macklin Celebrini assisted on both goals.
Wild 5, Oilers 3
Frederick Gaudreau scored twice and added an assist, leading Minnesota to a 5-3 victory over Edmonton.
Marcus Foligno had a goal and an assist, while Matt Boldy and Marcus Johansson also scored. Ryan Hartman had two assists, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 29 saves for the Wild, who have won three of their last four games.
Corey Perry had a goal and an assist for the Oilers, with Leon Draisaitl and Jeff Skinner also scoring. Stuart Skinner made 21 saves for Edmonton, who has lost three of their last four games.
