Nick Chubb made a successful comeback, just like he promised.
Cleveland’s star running back, whose 2023 season ended due to a serious knee injury in Week 2, was back on the field Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. His return excited Browns fans and provided a boost for a team looking for energy.
Chubb received a loud cheer during the pregame player introductions, which helped balance the boos aimed at quarterback Deshaun Watson as he came out onto the field at Huntington Bank Field.
Last season, Chubb, who is one of the most beloved athletes in Cleveland’s history, was taken off the field on a cart after suffering a severe injury to his left knee.
This was the same knee he hurt while playing at Georgia, after a hard hit from Pittsburgh safety Minkah Fitzpatrick near the goal line.
Earlier this week, Chubb wrote an essay where he expressed his fear that his football career might be over as he was being taken off the field.
After the Bengals scored a touchdown on the opening kickoff by returning it 100 yards, Chubb got his first carry in more than a year on the third play and gained 2 yards.
In his five-plus seasons with the Browns, who drafted him in the second round in 2018, Chubb has rushed for 6,511 yards and scored 48 touchdowns.
