Georgia defensive standout Mykel Williams sprained his left ankle during the season-opening win against Clemson, but coach Kirby Smart said Monday that it shouldn’t be a long-term problem.

Smart described the injury as a Grade 2 sprain and said Williams is uncertain for the home opener on Saturday when the No. 1 Bulldogs face FBS team Tennessee Tech.

Williams, who plays as an edge rusher, had two tackles for losses before leaving the field in the third quarter due to an illegal block below the waist.

“It’s stable,” Smart said. “He’ll be week-to-week. Probably questionable this week, but not going to be a long-term ankle.”

The Bulldogs also lost defensive tackle Warren Brinson to a bruised ankle in the first quarter. Smart mentioned that the injury is not serious and they are hopeful he’ll be able to play against Tennessee Tech.

Nickel back Joenel Aguero might also be available after missing the Clemson game with a pulled muscle. He participated in a walk-through Monday morning.

Receiver Dillon Bell is expected to be ready to play after dealing with cramping issues in the Clemson game.
