Not even Aaron Rodgers can rescue the New York Jets from their own issues

Aaron Rodgers is sacked in the 4th quarter

The NY Jets are a poorly run organization and a struggling football team. You can change the quarterback, the offensive line, the defense, the playmakers, and the coaching staff, but nothing seems to improve or change.

This may sound like a strong reaction after the Jets lost 23-17 to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5. The defense played really well, and while Aaron Rodgers made some mistakes, he mostly kept the team in the game until the end.

But here’s the problem: “almost” is not good enough in the NFL.

You might have heard this story before. The Jets’ strong defense holds one of the best offenses in check, keeping the team’s hopes alive despite a terrible offense. Then, when the offense starts to improve, the defense breaks down and gives up a scoring drive.

This has unfortunately been the pattern for the Jets for what feels like decades, especially during Robert Saleh’s time as head coach.

The Jets traded for Aaron Rodgers, thinking he would change everything. They believed they were just a quarterback away from being a Super Bowl contender. That’s why they made the big move for Rodgers in the 2023 offseason, expecting him to change the story for the struggling Jets.

Instead, things have remained the same.

This doesn’t mean Rodgers is without fault. His performance in the Week 5 loss was his worst of the season. He threw three costly interceptions, had trouble with his passes, and couldn’t lead a scoring drive when it mattered.

However, the problems with the Jets go much deeper than just Rodgers. They are not well-coached and consistently fail to win close games, rarely achieving double-digit victories.

Watching the Jets play is like a constant battle. It’s a tiring experience for fans who are worn down by the team’s repeated struggles. It feels like the same disappointing story every week.

The Jets have a Hall of Fame quarterback, a solid group of skilled players, and an offensive line that should perform well. Their defense played excellently on Sunday.
