It’s been watched by 39 million people and keeps getting more attention, a controversial post on social media that’s stirring up English soccer.

Right after Nottingham Forest lost 2-0 to Everton in the Premier League on Sunday, they posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), showing their frustration.

Instead of just criticizing the referees for what Forest believed were clear fouls not being called, they went further. They questioned the integrity of the VAR, Stuart Attwell, suggesting he might be biased because he supports Luton, a team competing with Forest to avoid being relegated.

The post ended with Forest saying they’ll think about their next steps.

This situation isn’t going away anytime soon, especially since the Premier League is likely to punish Forest for their comments.

Forest has been making headlines since returning to the Premier League last season after 24 years. Under their owner, Evangelos Marinakis, they’ve made big moves, signing a record number of players for a lot of money in their first transfer window back in the league.

But those spending sprees have consequences, as Forest recently lost points for breaking financial rules. They’re appealing that decision.

This season, with Forest struggling near the bottom of the table, they’ve been vocal about feeling like they’re getting unfair treatment from referees.

They’ve even brought in Mark Clattenburg, a former Premier League referee, to help analyze referee decisions. Marinakis, the owner, is known for being outspoken about referees, both in England and in Greece, where he owns Olympiakos, the country’s biggest club.
