Five-year NBA guard Jordan Poole is currently in his debut season with the Washington Wizards after being traded from the Golden State Warriors during the summer. He commands a salary of $27.4 million for this season, a figure that NBA insider Bobby Marks of ESPN has indicated is not viewed favorably by many teams in the league.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared by the NBACentral account, Marks remarked that based on his observations, numerous teams consider Jordan Poole’s contract to be one of the most unfavorable deals in the NBA at present.
Marks stated: “Many teams are regarding the Jordan Poole contract as one of the worst deals in the NBA right now.” The $27.4 million salary Poole is earning this season is part of the four-year, $128-million rookie contract extension he agreed upon with the Warriors in October 2022.
When the Wizards acquired him, along with other assets including future draft picks, in exchange for veteran guard Chris Paul, they assumed responsibility for his contract.
Unfortunately, the deal has not yielded the desired results thus far for the struggling Wizards (9-45), who currently hold the second-worst record in the NBA this season.
Furthermore, Poole, who was a late first-round pick in the 2019 draft out of Michigan, has failed to meet expectations, posting statistics of 15.6 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.4 rebounds in an average of 29.2 minutes per game. These numbers fall short of the performance he delivered in his final season with the Golden State Warriors last year.
Compounding the issue, the Wizards may find themselves compelled to retain Poole for the foreseeable future due to limited interest from other teams in the market, given his underwhelming performance while carrying a hefty contract.
