Lewis Hamilton has been competing in Formula 1 since 2007 and has achieved remarkable success throughout his career. Many consider his legacy in the sport to be unmatched and unlikely to be surpassed.
While Hamilton’s performance on the track has been crucial in shaping his legacy, his contributions off the track are equally significant. Recognizing this, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri expressed his desire to follow in the footsteps of the former McLaren driver.
During an interview with Sky Sports, Piastri stated, “I think it would be a wonderful thing to achieve. When you observe Lewis Hamilton and all that he does beyond racing. You reflect on figures like Sir Jackie Stewart from years ago, too. The impact they’ve had off the track is truly remarkable. It would certainly be a special accomplishment.”
As the first and only black driver in F1 history, Hamilton has been vocal about the lack of diversity in motorsports. He has taken proactive steps to address this issue by establishing initiatives such as the Hamilton Commission, which aims to increase diversity in motorsports.
Additionally, Hamilton founded the charitable foundation ‘Mission 44,’ which supports efforts to improve the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Inspired by Hamilton’s off-track endeavors, Piastri aims to create a similar legacy outside of racing. Despite his promising debut season in F1, Piastri hopes to be remembered not only for his achievements on the track but also for his contributions to society beyond the sport.
