MarShawn Lloyd, a rookie running back for the Green Bay Packers, has been placed on injured reserve due to an ankle injury sustained during their 16-10 win against the Indianapolis Colts. This move will keep Lloyd out for a minimum of the next four games. In response to this setback, the Packers have added running back Chris Brooks to their active roster from the practice squad.
Lloyd, drafted in the third round from Southern California, had already missed the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles with a hamstring injury. In his brief appearance against the Colts, Lloyd managed to gain 15 yards on six carries before the injury forced him off the field.
Support from his teammate Josh Jacobs has been crucial for Lloyd. Jacobs, who has experienced his own share of injury struggles, has offered Lloyd advice and encouragement. He emphasizes accepting the challenges and focusing on what can be controlled, which has helped Lloyd maintain a positive mindset during his recovery.
With Lloyd sidelined, the Packers are facing depth issues at the running back position. Jacobs has been a key player, handling 48 of the team’s 74 carries and rushing for 235 yards, ranking third in the NFL. Emanuel Wilson is currently the second-leading rusher on the team with 55 yards on nine carries.
The Packers, who hold a 1-1 record, are set to play against the Tennessee Titans, who are 0-2, this upcoming Sunday. Chris Brooks, who was signed to the practice squad on September 3, brings previous experience from the Miami Dolphins, where he rushed for 106 yards on 19 carries across nine games last season.
