Ja Morant made two key baskets in the final minute to help the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 127-125 on Saturday night in Minneapolis.
Morant finished with 12 points on 5-for-19 shooting but stepped up when it mattered most for Memphis, which won the first game of a four-game road trip. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the Grizzlies with 33 points and eight rebounds, while Desmond Bane scored 21 points.
Donte DiVincenzo led the Timberwolves with 27 points and 10 rebounds, but their three-game winning streak was snapped. Jaden McDaniels had 21 points, Naz Reid scored 19 off the bench, and Julius Randle contributed 18 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.

Nikola Jovic added a season-high 21 points and eight rebounds. Miami won its third straight game, all on the road. Haywood Highsmith scored 14 points and matched his career-high with five steals. Bam Adebayo contributed 13 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists, and both Terry Rozier and Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored 11 points.
Anfernee Simons had 28 points, including seven 3-pointers, and Shaedon Sharpe added 22 points for Portland, which lost its fifth game in seven. Deni Avdija chipped in 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings
Suns 114, Jazz 106
Devin Booker tied his season-high with six 3-pointers, scoring 34 points, and Kevin Durant added 25 points to help the Phoenix Suns beat the Utah Jazz.
Utah came back from a 16-point deficit in the second quarter and trailed by just three, 91-88, with 8:36 left. Phoenix then went on an 11-0 run to take control.
Lauri Markkanen led the Jazz with 24 points, Collin Sexton scored 20, and Walker Kessler added 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Pistons 123, Raptors 114
Tim Hardaway Jr. scored a season-high 27 points, and the Detroit Pistons held off the Toronto Raptors.
Hardaway made seven of his eight 3-point attempts. Cade Cunningham posted a triple-double with 22 points, 17 assists, and 10 rebounds, helping Detroit win for the sixth time in seven games. Malik Beasley added 18 points off the bench, while Tobias Harris contributed 17 points and seven rebounds.
Immanuel Quickley led the Raptors with 25 points, while Scottie Barnes had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Bruce Brown and Chris Boucher each scored 14 points off the bench. Toronto has now lost five straight games.
Nick Suzuki scored with 3:45 left in overtime to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Friday night.
Cole Caufield extended his goal streak to five games for Montreal and assisted on Suzuki’s fifth game-winning goal of the season. Josh Anderson added a short-handed goal, and rookie Jakub Dobes made 15 saves to help the Canadiens win their third straight game.
Jakob Chychrun and Lars Eller scored for Washington, which went past regulation for the third game in a row (1-0-2). Logan Thompson made 18 saves after replacing Charlie Lindgren, who was hit in the head during a collision with Suzuki early in the second period.
Eller tied the game 2-2 at 1:54 into the third period. In overtime, Suzuki and Caufield had a two-on-one breakaway. As the loose puck moved toward the crease, Suzuki chipped it over Thompson for the game-winning goal.
Kings 2, Jets 1 (OT)
Adrian Kempe scored at 1:14 of overtime to give the Los Angeles Kings a win against the Winnipeg Jets in the first game of a five-game road trip.
Kempe brought the puck down the left side and scored with a wrist shot from the left circle for his seventh regular-season overtime goal. He also assisted on Alex Turcotte’s goal, and Darcy Kuemper made 18 saves for the Kings, who have won five straight games.
Mark Scheifele scored for the Jets, and Eric Comrie made 21 saves. Winnipeg has lost four of its last five games (1-2-2).
Red Wings 5, Blackhawks 3
Alex DeBrincat, Lucas Raymond, and Marco Kasper each had a goal and an assist as the Detroit Red Wings extended their winning streak to six games with a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Patrick Kane recorded three assists for Detroit, and Albert Johansson scored his first career goal. Andrew Copp also scored, and Cam Talbot made 12 saves.
Chicago Blackhawks (NHL)
Teuvo Teravainen scored two goals in the third period, and Ryan Donato added another for Chicago. Connor Bedard extended his point streak to nine games with a first-period assist, and Petr Mrazek made 23 saves as Chicago lost for the seventh time in nine games.
Hurricanes 2, Canucks 0
Jordan Staal scored again, and Dustin Tokarski made only 14 saves as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Vancouver Canucks 2-0 in Raleigh, N.C.
Andrei Svechnikov also scored for the Hurricanes, who won on back-to-back nights. Staal’s goal pushed his season total to nine, just a day after his hat trick against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The captain also assisted on Svechnikov’s goal.
The Canucks, shut out for the third time this season and the second time in four games, are on a four-game losing streak. Thatcher Demko made 18 saves in the loss.
Utah 2, Sharks 1
Barrett Hayton scored with 1:32 remaining to give the Utah Hockey Club a comeback win over the San Jose Sharks in Salt Lake City.
Nick Schmaltz also scored for Utah, which snapped a two-game skid (0-1-1) and entered the game with only one win in their last eight outings (1-5-2). Karel Vejmelka made 18 saves in a low-scoring game.
Fabian Zetterlund scored for the Sharks, who have lost two straight games and have only two wins in their last 12 (2-9-1). Alexandar Georgiev stopped 24 shots in the loss.
Derek Stingley says the Texans aim to force three turnovers every game.
On Saturday against the Los Angeles Chargers, they went above that goal, with Stingley, the All-Pro cornerback, grabbing two of Justin Herbert’s career-high four interceptions, helping Houston cruise to a 32-12 wild-card playoff win.
“We’re just going out there playing like we’ve got to get the ball to win,” Stingley said.
Eric Murray returned one of the interceptions for a touchdown, and C.J. Stroud threw a touchdown pass in Houston’s win.
Since the merger, quarterbacks are 55-551-2 when throwing four or more interceptions in the regular season and just 3-33 in the playoffs.
“I let the team down,” Herbert said. “You can’t turn over the ball like that and expect to win. I put the team in a tough position there with four turnovers like that.”
This is the second straight year Stroud and the Texans (11-7) won in the first round after they beat Cleveland last season.
“It hasn’t always been easy this year,” Stroud said. “But this is just another thing that we can use to motivate us even more.”
Herbert threw just three interceptions in the regular season and had never thrown more than two in a game before facing a Texans secondary led by Stingley. Rookie Kamari Lassiter had the other pick.
The Texans made Herbert uncomfortable in the pocket all day, sacking him four times and hitting him another nine.

“Our defense, they dominated today,” coach DeMeco Ryans said. “And that’s who we want to be. They played our brand of football.”
The Chargers (11-7), who returned to the playoffs under first-year coach Jim Harbaugh, lost in the wild-card round for a second straight year after also losing in 2022, leaving them without a postseason win since 2018.
Harbaugh, who won a national championship with Michigan in Houston last January, took the blame for the loss.
“They were the better team today,” he said. “All respect to them. Not being the better team today, I’m accountable for that. That’s on me.”
Stroud threw for 282 yards with the touchdown pass to Nico Collins and an interception. Stroud joined Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger, Baltimore’s Joe Flacco, the New York Jets’ Mark Sanchez, Seattle’s Russell Wilson, and San Francisco’s Brock Purdy as quarterbacks to win playoff starts in each of their first two seasons.
Collins finished with seven catches for 122 yards, setting a franchise playoff record. Joe Mixon ran for 106 yards and a touchdown. D’Angelo Ross returned a blocked extra point for 2 points for Houston in the fourth quarter.
Herbert was 14 of 32 for 242 yards with a 40.9 passer rating.
Things looked bad early for the Texans, who fumbled on their first offensive play and were down 6-0 with about a minute left in the first half.
But Stroud threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Collins to put the Texans on top. Ka’imi Fairbairn added a 41-yard field goal to give Houston a 10-6 lead into halftime.
They were up 13-6 when Murray scored his first career touchdown on a 38-yard interception return late in the third quarter.
Herbert was picked off again on the next drive when Stingley grabbed a pass that was tipped off tight end Will Dissly. The third overall pick in the 2022 draft intercepted Herbert again late in the fourth quarter.
Herbert found Ladd McConkey for an 86-yard touchdown reception to cut the Chargers’ deficit to 23-12 in the fourth quarter. But Cameron Dicker’s extra-point attempt was blocked and returned by Ross to make it 25-12.
A 17-yard run by Mixon extended Houston’s advantage to 32-12 with about four minutes left.
The Chargers were up by 3 after a field goal on their first drive when John Metchie fumbled after a catch on Houston’s first offensive play, and it was recovered by Derwin James.

Dicker added a 39-yard field goal on the next drive to make it 6-0.
Deane Leonard intercepted Stroud early in the second quarter, but Lassiter picked off Herbert on the next play to give Houston the ball back. But the Texans couldn’t move the ball and punted.
Stroud and Houston’s offense finally got something going. Houston was facing third-and-16 from its 17 when Stroud fumbled the snap, and it rolled 4 yards behind him. He scooped it up and evaded the rush to find Xavier Hutchinson for a 34-yard gain.
“That was an outstanding play,” Ryans said. “To me, that was the play of the game that really created momentum for our entire team.”
Harbaugh agreed.
“It grabbed quite a bit of momentum,” he said. “It’s my job, our job, to get the momentum back.”
Stroud connected with Collins on a 37-yard reception two plays later to get the Texans in the red zone. He found Collins again on third-and-11 to cap the 99-yard drive and put Houston on top 7-6 about a minute before halftime.
The Texans forced a punt to get the ball back with 27 seconds left in the second quarter. A season-best 27-yard run by Stroud got the Texans to the Los Angeles 36. The quarterback beat his chest and screamed after taking a hard hit at the end of the run.
