Patrick Mahomes Isn’t Waiting for Offseason Program to Reconnect with Receivers.
Despite the Chiefs still waiting to start on-field activities at their team facility, Patrick Mahomes is already taking the initiative to work out with his receivers ahead of the second phase of the offseason program.
For years now, Mahomes has organized offseason workouts in Texas, and this year is no exception. These sessions not only allow him to reconnect with his teammates but also to get acquainted with new arrivals to Kansas City, such as wide receiver Hollywood Brown.
Speaking to reporters in a video conference on Monday, Mahomes highlighted Brown’s impressive speed, a trait for which he’s well-known since entering the league. However, Mahomes also expressed pleasant surprise at other aspects of Brown’s game and hinted at showcasing Brown in new ways within the Chiefs’ offense.
“Hollywood, I think you obviously see the speed,” Mahomes remarked. “You see the speed instantly. But I think what I like so far is how hard he works. He’s been at all the workouts and the route running, and he wants more, he wants to continue to push himself more and more. I think he’ll have a great role in this offense, the way he’s able to run routes, the way he’s able to stretch the field, I think it’ll be even different than you’ve seen him before because I think we could utilize them in different ways that I think he has been utilized in yet.”
The Chiefs’ receiving corps faced consistency issues last season, but they managed to overcome them to secure their third Super Bowl win in five seasons. If Brown proves to be a good fit, the team’s pursuit of a third consecutive title will be even more promising.
