According to Christian Falk, Manchester United faces competition from Newcastle United in their pursuit of Julian Nagelsmann amidst uncertainty over Erik ten Hag’s tenure.
Ten Hag, after a promising first season, has struggled to maintain the same level of success in his second season at Manchester United. The team currently sits sixth in the Premier League and has been eliminated from both the UEFA Champions League and the EFL Cup.
Recently, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group acquired minority stakes in Manchester United, indicating forthcoming changes within the club.
Given the team’s performance this season, there are doubts surrounding Ten Hag’s future.
Nagelsmann, currently managing Germany’s national team, has emerged as a potential replacement for the Dutchman at Old Trafford.
However, Newcastle United is also interested in Nagelsmann. Despite securing a top-four finish last season, Eddie Howe’s side has struggled in the current campaign, sitting in 10th place in the league and being eliminated from the Champions League.
The future of Howe is also uncertain, and Nagelsmann, on Newcastle’s radar, shares the same agent as Newcastle’s defender Fabian Schar. While both Manchester United and Newcastle United are keen on Nagelsmann, the German coach is yet to decide whether to return to club coaching or extend his contract with Die Mannschaft.
