Two members of the Dallas Cowboys experienced an already challenging day at the office that took a turn for the worse. Following the Cowboys’ 31-10 defeat by the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, disgruntled fans went to extremes by disclosing private information about Dallas safety Jayron Kearse and fellow safety Juanyeh Thomas.
In this unfortunate incident, Kearse’s home address was exposed to the public, while Thomas found his phone number laid bare for everyone to see. The incident originated when Kearse questioned on social media why he received a penalty in a play, only to face swift backlash from fans critiquing his subpar performance. Thomas intervened to support his teammate, but the situation escalated when fans went beyond reasonable criticism.
Expressing his discontent, Thomas emphasized that certain fans had “crossed a line.” In an interview with The Dallas Morning News, Thomas, who had to change his phone number due to the breach, stated, “I can take criticism, but you do cross a line when you start doing dumb stuff like that, for real. It’s a line you can’t cross when you start sharing people’s addresses and numbers and stuff. At the end of the day, this is still a game. People got a life.”
Reflecting on the aftermath, Thomas described the inundation of texts and calls he received, expressing bewilderment at how people could leak such personal information.
Despite securing a playoff spot just before the game, the Cowboys faced a series of setbacks on the field. The defeat against the Bills not only pushed them a game behind the NFC-leading San Francisco 49ers but also dropped their season record to 10-4. Known for their high-scoring performances throughout the season, with five games of 40 or more points and eight wins by a margin of 20 or more, the Cowboys struggled to a season-low 195 yards of offense. Quarterback Dak Prescott completed 21 of 34 passes for 134 yards with an interception.
While Bills quarterback Josh Allen threw for only 94 yards, running back James Cook had a standout performance with a career-best 179 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
