Dennis Man scores the first goal

Christian Pulisic scored his first goal of the new Serie A season, but it wasn’t enough to stop AC Milan from losing 2-1 to Parma on Saturday, leaving new coach Paulo Fonseca still looking for his first win.

Pulisic scored an easy goal in the 66th minute to equalize after Dennis Man’s early goal in the second minute. However, substitute Matteo Cancellieri scored the winning goal 11 minutes later, giving Parma coach Fabio Pecchia a nice birthday gift.

Fonseca, who took over from Stefano Pioli in the offseason, has a lot of work ahead. Milan needed two late goals to secure a 2-2 draw against Torino in their opening game.

It was the first time in 13 years that Milan failed to win either of their opening two matches of the season.

Inter Milan secured its first win of the season by beating Lecce 2-0. The defending champions had drawn 2-2 with Genoa in their first match last weekend.

Alvaro Morata had scored on his debut but was injured, and Milan had a rough start in Parma, falling behind within 90 seconds.

Man, who had scored in Parma’s 1-1 draw against Fiorentina on the opening day, was left completely unmarked to score from Emanuele Valeri’s cross.

Milan struggled until after a cooling break midway through the first half. Shortly after play resumed, Parma’s goalkeeper Zion Suzuki had to save a header from Strahinja Pavlovic by pushing it onto the crossbar.

Minutes later, Pavlovic headed a corner just past the near post.

Pavlovic also made a crucial defensive play, rushing in to make a sliding tackle and prevent Man, who was clear on goal, from scoring what could have been a second goal.
