Fabio Quartararo has proposed that Yamaha should consider hiring two seasoned riders for its Pramac satellite team in the upcoming season. He argues that, with the current urgency to turn around the team’s performance in MotoGP, experienced riders could accelerate this process.
This suggestion marks a significant departure from his previous endorsement of younger talents such as Tony Arbolino and Fabio di Giannantonio.
Quartararo’s perspective has shifted as he now emphasizes the need for immediate improvements. While he acknowledges the long-term benefits of nurturing young riders like Fermin Aldeguer, he believes that the pressing need for rapid progress makes experienced riders a more practical choice for the current situation.
Pramac had originally intended to pair a young rider with Miguel Oliveira, but recent developments suggest they are now moving towards a deal with Jack Miller. Both Oliveira and Miller bring considerable experience to the table, which could be crucial as Pramac prepares to transition from Ducati to Yamaha.
Yamaha is also in search of a second rider to bolster its test team, especially given Cal Crutchlow’s ongoing injury issues. Augusto Fernandez, who is currently without a MotoGP seat for 2025 after his departure from the KTM group, has become a serious contender. Quartararo has been advocating for Fernandez, highlighting his recent MotoGP experience and potential value as a test rider.
Quartararo believes Fernandez could be an asset both in terms of providing valuable feedback and possibly making a comeback to the MotoGP grid if his performance proves strong. This move would align with Yamaha’s need for a rider who can contribute effectively to their development and potentially return to full-time competition.
