Mike Tyson’s trainer downplays health risk ahead of Jake Paul bout: “He knows how to fight”

Rafael Cordeiro wants to assure fans ahead of the much-anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson that there’s no need to worry. As the long-time head of Kings MMA and a close friend of ‘Iron Mike’, Cordeiro has been instrumental in Tyson’s journey back into the ring.

Their bond dates back to 2020 when Tyson sought a comeback, turning to Cordeiro for training. Since then, their relationship has flourished, with Cordeiro guiding Tyson through rigorous training sessions, even holding pads for the legendary boxer.

This summer, Cordeiro aims to lead Tyson to his first victory in over two decades. The recent announcement of Tyson signing a deal to face Jake Paul on July 20th on Netflix has stirred excitement among fans. The venue for this epic showdown will be the AT&T Stadium in Texas, famed for hosting the Dallas Cowboys and expected to draw a crowd of 85,000 spectators.

Yet, with the excitement comes concern, particularly regarding Tyson’s age. At 57, many worry about his well-being in the ring. However, Tyson remains resolute, vowing to secure a knockout win against Paul. Cordeiro, too, stands firmly behind him.

In a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Cordeiro addressed these concerns, emphasizing Tyson’s experience and prowess in the ring. He reassured fans that despite Tyson’s age, his skills remain formidable and unchanged, even with Jake Paul as his opponent.

Cordeiro expressed his confidence, stating, “We don’t have to be concerned about it. We’re talking about a two-time world champion. The guy didn’t have 20 fights in two years; he knows how to fight. He’s fought against the best guys in the world. When he steps inside the ring, he knows what to do.”

He further emphasized Tyson’s relentless work ethic and determination, asserting, “It’s not something new for Mike, and this fight is no different. He works hard every single day to go in there and try to knock Jake out from the beginning to the end.”

Cordeiro’s belief in Tyson’s capabilities shines through as he anticipates a thrilling showdown between the two fighters. He concluded, “I truly believe it is going to be a great show. Mike is going to step into the ring as the old Mike Tyson, and he’s going to try and knock out Jake from the beginning to the end.”
