Heliot Ramos smashed his second home run in the major leagues, helping the San Francisco Giants secure a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, marking their first series sweep this season.
Jordan Hicks, despite a drop in his pitching speed, earned his fourth win by allowing only one run and three hits across five innings, with no walks. This win extended the Giants’ winning streak to four games, their longest this season.
Hicks’ usual fastball speed averaged 95.3 mph, but on this occasion, it dropped to 91.4 mph. However, he felt he grew stronger as the game progressed, despite some challenges with his pre-game meal.
The Giants’ pitching was further bolstered by Sean Hjelle, Luke Jackson, Taylor Rogers, and Camilo Doval, each pitching a hitless inning. Doval secured the win with a perfect save, striking out Jake Cave for the final out, maintaining his perfect record in eight save opportunities.
Ramos’s home run in the sixth inning came against Victor Vodnik, adding to his previous big league homer last August.
Ryan McMahon’s early homer in the first inning gave the Rockies an initial lead, but they couldn’t maintain it, extending their losing streak at Oracle Park to eight games. Despite arriving with a seven-game winning streak, their road performance remains lackluster with a 6-19 record this season.
LaMonte Wade Jr. contributed to the Giants’ victory by tying the game at 1 with an RBI single in the fifth inning, extending his streak of reaching base safely to 19 games, which equals his career best.
