Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice surrendered to police after being charged with aggravated assault following a multi-vehicle crash on a Dallas highway involving a Lamborghini SUV he was driving and another speeding sports car driven by Theodore Knox. Rice, represented by Texas state Sen. Royce West, turned himself in at the Glenn Heights Police Department and was released on bond.
His lawyer emphasized Rice’s cooperation with law enforcement and his remorse for the incident, which he acknowledged on Instagram.
Dallas police issued arrest warrants for Rice and Knox, both facing charges including aggravated assault and collision involving serious bodily injury. Knox, who was driving the Corvette, was not in custody, but he has been suspended from Southern Methodist University’s football team, according to the university.
The crash occurred when Rice and Knox were allegedly speeding in the left lane, lost control, and caused a chain collision after the Lamborghini hit the center median wall. Both drivers left the scene without ensuring medical attention for those involved or providing their information. Police reported minor injuries to four individuals.
Rice, a product of North Richland Hills near Fort Worth, rose to prominence at Southern Methodist University before being drafted by the Chiefs in the second round. He had become a reliable target in the Chiefs’ passing game prior to the incident.
