One of the newer rivalries in the Champions League continues this week as Real Madrid faces Manchester City in the quarterfinals, with Real Madrid having more time to rest and prepare.
Real Madrid’s coach Carlo Ancelotti is set for his 200th Champions League match, and his team has had a longer break than Manchester City, who played in the English Premier League on Saturday.
City’s coach, Pep Guardiola, expressed his displeasure about the difference in preparation time between the two teams. Real Madrid last played in the Spanish league on March 31 and had the weekend off, while City played in the EPL.
While acknowledging the advantage Real Madrid might have due to the extra rest, City’s midfielder Rodri stated that they are not overly concerned about it and are focused on how their team will perform physically.
Ancelotti mentioned that despite the extended preparation time, he doesn’t plan to make significant changes to his team or tactics for the match. He expects an exciting game with both teams showcasing their quality.
In their recent encounters, Real Madrid eliminated Manchester City two seasons ago, but City got the better of Madrid last season. The matches between them have been high-scoring, with both teams aiming for a spot in the semifinals for the fourth consecutive time.
