Real Madrid extended Luka Modric’s contract on Wednesday, ensuring the Croatia midfielder will return for his 13th season with the club.
Madrid announced that they reached an agreement with Modric to extend his contract until June 2025.
As one of Madrid’s captains, Modric didn’t start as frequently this season, but he is expected to play a more significant role in Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield following Toni Kroos’s retirement.
Modric has secured 26 titles with Madrid, the highest number in the club’s history, alongside defender Nacho Fernández. This includes six Champions League trophies and four Spanish league titles.
“Modric arrived at Real Madrid in 2012, and during his 12 seasons with us, he has become a legend of Real Madrid and world football,” Madrid stated.
In 2018, Modric won the Ballon d’Or, FIFA Player of the Year Award, and was named UEFA Player of the Year after leading Croatia to a second-place finish at the World Cup.
He holds the record for the most international appearances for Croatia with 178 caps. With Madrid, he has played 534 matches and scored 39 goals.
